Synopsis

The place where the sky meets, the boundary between this world and the afterlife <Jirisan> If you truly, truly wish to come to Jirisan, come into the blue mountain shadows of the Seomjin River humbly like grains of sand on a white beach, and if you want to see the cliffs and withered trees of Yeonhabong, come to repent only if you are prone to dreaming of suicide. However, if you insist on coming to Jirisan, come anytime, anywhere, in any way. You are fickle day by day, but Jirisan, even as it changes, always maintains its first heart; so if by any chance you can endure it, please do not come. From Lee Won-gyu's 'If by Chance You Wish to Come to Jirisan' Mountain Jirisan is a mountain of comfort. It was a refuge and a land of hope for many, such as the Donghak followers of late Joseon and the independence fighters under Japanese colonial rule. Even now, many people climb, walk, and endure on this mountain, each carrying their own painful stories. Leaving behind the lonely, bleak gray cityscape, set against the backdrop of the vast and expansive hidden vistas of Jirisan, we wish to portray the diverse stories of people who climb the mountain: those who come to die, those who come to kill, and those who come to save. Those who save people The greatest goal of mountain climbing is to come down the mountain alive. The people who exist to help with that goal are the rangers of Jirisan National Park. Even in severe weather such as torrential rain, heavy snow, landslides, and typhoons, they traverse the mountain to rescue stranded individuals, and on days when helicopters cannot take off, they are the ones who must carry a victim on their backs and run distances of over five hours. Because they know the mountain better than anyone else, they are the true mountain keepers who must resolve all incidents that take place on it. We wish to capture the story of their sacrifices for someone who might be wandering somewhere in the mountains even at this very moment. A small value: Coexistence The value pursued by the national park is 'coexistence.' Our country's first national park, the spiritual mountain of the nation. Vast and deep, Jirisan is not a place for humans alone. It is home to numerous animals and plants, including Asiatic black bears, and a space of 'coexistence' that prioritizes preservation over development. At a time when life is difficult for everyone due to various diseases breaking out everywhere as wild animal habitats disappear from climate change caused by ecosystem destruction, it seems that consideration and understanding are more desperately needed than ever, not only for coexistence with nature but also in human-to-human relationships. Through this drama, we want to reflect on the value of how we all can coexist and live together.
