What is “Live” about?
It is a 2018 Series. Up until now, police dramas have almost exclusively been case-driven. In our country's case, despite the reality that the police do not hold independent investigative authority, they have been portrayed as though they were a grand public authority that independently conducts and resolves investigations. As the price of emphasizing the greatness of the police, it instilled a sense of distance and incongruity toward the police in the public. If they are so remarkable, why is the world still in this state? Isn't it the result of turning a blind eye to powerful authority and being ruthless toward the weak? It made people view them, the police, in opposition to the public and citizens. Through vivid reporting, [Live] wants to capture the wish that, rather than being imprinted as public authority on citizens (the public), they be remembered as what the vast majority of police officers describe: diligent citizens and members of the public in uniform, emotional laborers who resolve (suffer through) civil complaints and public safety. Seeing my father, my sibling, and my son standing on the front line, carrying out excessive duties, and upholding everyday justice will make for a fresh, deeply moving drama that delivers both genre entertainment and heartfelt warmth. A drama that speaks of the value of the ordinary through protagonists stripped of fantasy who feel like vivid, everyday people who just stepped out of the neighborhood. The foremost value of a drama is empathy. The protagonists of [Live] are characters no different from you and me, living among daily joys and sorrows. Even though they are pretentious, petty, and bow down to earn a living, they are people who cast aside their own safety for family, citizens, and colleagues, and stand on the front line once more. By creating a drama capable of discussing that justice is not something grandiose, but something that can be upheld within the bounds of common sense, and that it is not a vague ideal, but a precious value of daily life that neither groups nor individuals can concede, we want to express hope for today's and future society. Rather than one or two great leaders or powerholders building this country, we want to deliver the warm truth, just as it is, that the majority of citizens running on the ground have defended and built this nation.
