When they turn 15 and the chance to join the Magic Knights arrives, the gap between the two shows itself in concrete choices. Yuno is chosen by a four-leaf clover grimoire, while Asta obtains a five-leaf clover grimoire inhabited by a demon. In the entrance exam that follows, Yuno joins 'Golden Dawn', the strongest Magic Knights squad, and Asta joins the 'Black Bulls' squad. The setup of a boy without magic power chasing the same dream as a naturally gifted rival creates the fun unique to coming-of-age stories, and the fact that the two walk their own paths in different squads becomes the driving force that makes you watch how the distance between them will change.
It can be watched on Wavve with a subscription, and as the title indicates, it is offered in the subtitled version. The organizational structure of the Magic Knights, divided into nine squads, forms the backbone of the world, so following each character's personal growth together with the character of the group they belong to is a good way to watch.
What to watch for
- 01
Compare how Asta, who has no magic power, and Yuno, who is recognized for great talent, form a contrast over the same dream.
- 02
See how the lucky four-leaf clover grimoire and the demon-inhabited five-leaf clover grimoire set the two characters' personalities apart.
- 03
Note what distance is created between the two characters' goals by the entrance results that split them into 'Golden Dawn' and 'Black Bulls' among the nine squads.
This series suits those who want to watch, in subtitles, a coming-of-age story in a world of magic where a protagonist without magic power moves toward the same dream as his rival.
