A human story in which everyone builds happiness together
Su-gyeong is a capable, enterprising woman of the new generation who wants both to marry well and to get ahead in her own field. Dong-gyu is a promising romantic from a fishing village who is held back by his poor family and cannot move in any direction. After a love full of push and pull, Su-gyeong and Dong-gyu finally go through with marriage. It is the union of two distinctive people raised in very different environments.
So, what will happen now?
The planning intent of the MBC weekend drama <You and I> is to warmly portray the process in which a young man and woman meet, love each other, marry, have children, care for their parents and build up their household, sometimes hating each other along the way, yet living healthily and growing into sincere adults.
Wanting to build a happy family while also doing well at one's own work is the wish of young women today. However, that wish is by no means easy to fulfill. The rising number of divorces among newlyweds and the trend of men and women of marriageable age avoiding marriage are proof of that. There are even pessimists who worry that before long the institution of marriage itself may collapse.
<You and I>, a 'realistic MBC drama,' aims to show, through Su-gyeong, a woman who wisely overcomes a difficult married life, even by rightfully getting involved in her in-laws' affairs, that the lives of the many women who chose marriage are by no means in vain.
A drama that is cheerful and fun, yet also deeply moving.

Su-gyeong and Dong-gyu are in a so-called office romance
Su-gyeong (played by Choi Jin-sil) is dating Dong-gyu (played by Park Sang-won), a senior at the same company. Responsible for event planning, she is recognized at work. It would be a waste to marry now. She does love Sang-gyu, but, to be honest, her ambition is also to get ahead. After first paying a visit to Su-gyeong's parents (played by Sim Yang-hong and Kim Hye-ja), they go down to Dong-gyu's family home by the sea. As bad luck would have it... Dong-gyu's country home turns out to be a troubled household. Dong-gyu's father runs a fishing boat and gets by somehow, the family is poor and seems to be full of debt, and his younger brothers seem rough.... Su-gyeong comes back up appalled at the request of Dong-gyu's father (played by Choi Bul-am): "It seems Dong-gyu can't decide on marriage right away because he has nothing, so I'd like you to rent a room on your side and look after the youngest, Min-gyu." Title analysis
Updated October 31, 2026
'You and I' is a 1997 series that follows the daily life created by the union of Su-kyeong and Dong-gyu, a young married couple raised in different environments. Su-kyeong is a go-getting woman of the new generation who wants to do well at both home and work, and Dong-gyu is a romantic from a fishing village whose difficult family circumstances hold him back. A distinctive feature of the premise is that it centers on life after marriage rather than on courtship.
It was planned as an MBC weekend drama, and the experiences a couple meets in married life, such as in-law issues, childbirth, supporting parents and building up their household, are presented as its material. The intention behind the planning, to warmly portray the two growing into sincere adults while sometimes even hating each other, is clear, so the enjoyment centers on watching relationships change in daily life rather than on big events.
It can be watched on Wavve with a subscription. Because a 1997 drama already took up the concern that the hope of achieving both family and work does not come true easily, there is also the fun of comparing it with today's views on marriage.
What to watch for
01
You can see what choices Su-kyeong, who wants to achieve both work and family, makes when faced with in-law issues.
02
It is worth noting how Dong-gyu, from a fishing village, balances his family circumstances with married life.
03
As a work aired in 1997, it lets you compare the portrayal of marriage and family in dramas of that era with today's.

This is a good fit for viewers who want to watch an older weekend drama that warmly depicts married life and family relationships rather than romance.
