As the work introduces itself as a story of a new generation of "dark heroes", the protagonist starts out not as a hero on the side of justice from the beginning but as a member of a bloodline under attack. The process of facing the Oni asleep inside him, and the hidden truth behind the confrontation between the two organizations, form the two axes of the story. What is interesting is that, on top of the grammar of a story of awakening and growth, there is a layered structure that asks anew who is the invader and who is the victim.
It is a work released in 2025 and is available on Wavve by subscription. Since the rules of the world, bloodlines and organizations, form the basis of the story, it is better to follow it in order from the first episode and get used to the relationship between the two forces.
What to watch for
- 01
The setup that reworks the familiar slaying-tale structure from the Oni's point of view determines the character of the story.
- 02
Because the starting point is the protagonist realizing his own bloodline late, viewers also learn the world bit by bit together with Shiki.
- 03
The organizational opposition of the "Momotaro Organization" and the "Oni Organization" expands one person's awakening into a larger fight.
This is a good fit for viewers who like dark hero stories in which an ordinary protagonist awakens to a hidden bloodline.
