Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938

As of October 15, 2026, you can watch it on Wavve (Subscription).

It is a 2023 Series. 1. Tale of the Nine Tailed returns as an 'unapologetic' retro fantasy. Last season. Armed with the two keywords 'memories and empathy,' when we inquired after our indigenous gods and native ghosts, the gumiho, bulgasari, eoduksini, fox sister, and snail bride found their names and manifested by our side. So this time, let's play openly without hesitation. The genre is a time-slip action drama. Taboos disappear, the action grows stronger, and the characters become more ruthless. The only thing that remains the same is 'Lee Yeon's pure devotion.' 2. Gyeongseong in 1938, a city of anxiety and fascination. Black rubber shoes and high heels. Topknots and permed hair. That place, where bedbug-infested thatched houses and luxury department stores mingled, was an irony in itself and a stage where 'East and West' and 'past and present' competed. The 'modernity' that landed on the Korean Peninsula riding the wave of Western expansion might have bloomed into an even more brilliant flower had it not been a 'colony.' In truth, traditional Joseon was murdered, stigmatized by words such as 'uncivilized, underdeveloped, and barbaric.' Though we may not fully know, our native monsters must also have suffered fiercely through the era. 3. Gyeongseong connects with 2023. Despite a gap of about 100 years, the Gyeongseong of that era uniquely resembles our present day. Intellectuals who graduated from prestigious schools drifted through tea rooms because they could not find employment, much like the youth of today nesting in Starbucks. It was an era when the worst unemployment rates regularly made headlines. Still, the youth found ways to enjoy 'small but certain happiness,' struggled to stay 'cheerful,' cast off the custom of early marriage, and began warm new loves. This is the story of 'one gumiho' who passed right through the heart of that eventful era.
